European Journal of Soil Science

A special Issue is under preparation (full details will be released soon)

The European Journal of Soil Science (EJSS) is an international journal that publishes outstanding papers in soil science that advance the theoretical and mechanistic understanding of physical, chemical and biological processes and their interactions in soils acting from molecular to continental scales in natural and managed environments, as well as descriptions of data sets that contribute to these goals.

EUROSOIL case study writing competition

EUROSOIL and CABI are pleased to announce a case study writing competition for delegates of EUROSOIL 2025. We invite submissions that showcase real-world applications of soil science research and practice.

Submission deadline: July 4, 2025

About Soil Science Cases

Soil Science Cases is part of CABI’s growing collection of practical case studies, offering insight into real-world applications of soil science research. It encompasses the areas of: soil formation, soil physics, soil chemistry, soil biology, soil fertility, soil conservation and management, soil and environmental quality, soil hydrology and soil mineralogy. Targeted to lecturers and trainers, practitioners, industry professionals and students, Soil Science Cases represents a range of voices in each field, including practitioners, public stakeholders, academics, teachers and students.

Soil Science Cases emphasises the teaching value of the experiences and discoveries of authors in novel sets of circumstances. There are no prerequisites of a particular level of education or extensive publication history. This means that case studies make excellent publication opportunities for early-career researchers or practitioners, as well as graduate students. Case studies are peer-reviewed to ensure scientific integrity, and do not need to consist of original research.

The competition

The aim of this competition is to encourage new voices in the field, and it is open to anyone practicing in soil science in some capacity.

All entries will go through the standard publication process. All case studies that meet the criteria for publication, including successful peer review, will be published in Soil Science Cases. Case studies will be published as soon as they are accepted.

The winning case study will be decided by a judging panel of Soil Science Cases editorial team members. All case studies will be evaluated by the panel, with a focus on:

  • Educational value and clarity
  • Innovation in approach or application
  • Relevance to current soil science challenges

The winning case study will be announced at EUROSOIL 2025. The author team will receive a £500 prize.
